Dance pushed to its limits, then silence -
The final whispers of Pina Bausch, the most influential choreographer of the 20th century.
Choreographed in loving memory, music, politics, and culture are explored through dance.
For her final chapter, “…como el musguito en la piedra, ay si, si, si…” (Like Moss on the Stone) , legendary choreographer Pina Bausch was inspired by Chilean pop music, politics, and culture, during a residency in Chile with 21 dancers. The title is based on lyrics from folk poet Violetta Parra and symbolizes that although love is fragile, it is also tenacious like moss growing on a stone.
In “…como el musguito en la piedra, ay si, si, si…” (Like Moss on the Stone) Pina Bausch’s distinctive theatrical rhythms are entered both by a new generation of dancers from the ensemble and dancers from the original cast who were already part of Tanztheater Wuppertal when the piece was created. This dance production includes more than 20 Latin American musical compositions, interwoven with meticulously crafted movements, to create a poetic experience that defies gender stereotypes, while insinuating power dynamics and emotional manipulation, leading audiences on a profound exploration of culture, memory, and time. Since its premiere in 2009, this work has garnered widespread international acclaim and is considered crucial to the understanding of modern dance aesthetics. After a long wait, it is finally coming to Taiwan in 2026. Dance enthusiasts are invited to experience this legendary choreographer’s final whispers.
