Five centuries after Vesalius’s anatomical landmark, De Humani Corporis Fabrica opens the human body to cinema within Paris hospitals. Directors Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor note that the film aims to re-examine the flesh by infusing static anatomy with movement, time, texture, and sound. Rejecting conventional cameras, they used a custom miniature lens to bridge medical endoscopy with external observational footage, encouraging viewers to rethink interiority and exteriority, self and other, and the interdependencies connecting all bodies.
