「生命是什麼？死亡又是什麼？」馬勒在第二號交響曲《復活》第一樂章留下的註解，是永恆的哲學思辨。這部長約九十分鐘，動員逾二百人的交響鉅作，不僅是音樂史上的指標性作品，也是許多重要時刻的載體：巴伐利亞廣播交響樂團即以此曲向已故前任指揮楊頌斯致敬，而對賽門．拉圖爵士而言，這是他指揮生涯的座標。

1973年，18歲的拉圖在倫敦皇家音樂學院以《復活》開啟指揮之路；1987年與伯明罕市立交響樂團的錄音令他成名天下；2022年，在即將卸任倫敦交響樂團之際，《復活》再次響起。「這部作品包含了整個世界」，拉圖以這部作品傳達出他對現代社會的深層關懷。經過半世紀的淬鍊和體悟，如今，大師即將帶著他的「人生之曲」踏上臺灣，與巴伐利亞廣播交響樂團重啟這場對生命意義的質問，至於會迸發出什麼新的馬勒觀？答案，就在衛武營！

“What is life? What is death?” — the annotation Gustav MAHLER left at the opening of the first movement of his Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, remains an eternal philosophical inquiry. Lasting approximately ninety minutes and requiring more than two hundred performers, this monumental symphonic work stands not only as a landmark in music history but also as a vessel for moments of profound human significance. The Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, BRSO) has performed it in tribute to their late former Chief Conductor Mariss JANSONS, and for Sir Simon RATTLE, it has long served as a defining coordinate of his artistic life.

In 1973, at the age of 18, RATTLE launched his conducting journey with Resurrection at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His 1987 recording with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra brought him international acclaim. In 2022, as he prepared to conclude his tenure with the London Symphony Orchestra, the work returned once more. For RATTLE, this piece contains the human emotions in the whole world, using MAHLER’s vast canvas to express his deep concern for the condition of modern society. Forged through half a century of insight and transformation, the maestro now brings his “life’s score” to Taiwan. With the BRSO, he rekindles MAHLER’s timeless question of existence itself. What new MAHLER will emerge from this moment? The answer lies at Weiwuying.

With his captivating charisma, deep enthusiasm, great love of experimentation and meticulous artistic seriousness, it is no surprise Simon RATTLE is one of the most fascinating conductors of our time. He was Chief Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as Music Director of the London Symphony Orchestra, and has been Chief Conductor of the BR Chorus and the BRSO since the 2023/24 season. Simon RATTLE has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. Several of his CDs released with the BRSO have received awards.

Soprano｜Lucy CROWE

Regarded as one of the most versatile singers of her generation, Lucy CROWE was awarded an OBE in 2023. Equally at home in opera, concert, and recital, CROWE appears regularly with the world’s leading opera houses, orchestras, and conductors, with repertoire spanning from the Baroque to the twentieth century. In the 2025/26 season, CROWE returns to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden for Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and the English National Opera for her role debut as Fiordiligi in_Cosi fan tutte_. On the concert stage she sings with Yannick NÉZET-SÉGUIN and The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony with Rafael PAYARE. An acclaimed recording artist, she has received Grammy and BBC Music Magazine nominations.

Praised for her “dazzling”  voice, with a “treacle-rich middle register” and a “full and rich top” , Karen CARGILL, one of the leading singers of her generation, regularly collaborates with conductors such as Sir Simon RATTLE, Daniel HARDING, Yannick NÉZET-SÉGUIN, Robin TICCIATI, Rafael PAYARE and Edward GARDNER. Her 2025/26 season highlights include operatic performances at the Canadian Opera Company and the Metropolitan Opera. Especially recognized for her interpretation of MAHLER, CARGILL will perform with the Staatskapelle Berlin conducted by Sir Simon RATTLE, with the BBCSSO under Sir Donald RUNNICLES, and with the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra under Jukka-Pekka SARASTE.

Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks

Founded in 1949, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, BRSO) is now ranked among the world’s leading orchestras. Sir Simon RATTLE has been the BRSO’s Chief Conductor since 2023. In addition to performing its core repertoire and contemporary music, the orchestra places a strong emphasis on music education and the promotion of young musicians. The orchestra tours regularly throughout Europe, Asia and North and South America. It has received numerous awards for its extensive recording activities, including a Grammy, the Diapason d’ Or, and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

台北愛樂合唱團

1972年創立，1983年起由杜黑教授擔任藝術總監至今，現由古育仲教授擔任音樂總監，張維君擔任常任指揮。常與國內外主要樂團及指揮家合作，包含呂紹嘉、水藍、簡文彬、瑞霖、殷巴爾、梵志登、馬寇爾等。演出作品包括巴赫《b小調彌撒》、《聖約翰受難曲》、《聖馬太受難曲》、貝多芬第九號交響曲、布拉姆斯《德文安魂曲》、華格納《羅恩格林》、布瑞頓《戰爭安魂曲》、奧福《布蘭詩歌》、韓德爾《彌賽亞》、莫札特《安魂曲》、馬勒第二、三、八號交響曲、威爾第《安魂曲》等。出版多張專輯皆獲臺灣金曲獎肯定。

Taipei Philharmonic Chorus, founded in 1972, has established an extensive repertoire and a reputation as one of the most prestigious choruses in Taiwan. The chorus has been collaborated or invited to perform with famous orchestras and conductors in many different festivals and countries, such as Wiener Symphoniker, Russian State Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO), under the direction of Helmuth RILLING, Günther HERBIG, Gilbert KAPLAN, Frieder BERNIUS, Eliahu INBAL, Jaap van ZWEDEN, Jun MÄRKL, Jahja LING, Shao-chia LÜ, CHIEN Wen-pin , Lan SHUI, among others. The repertoire of the chorus includes BACH’s b minor Mass, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Christmas Oratorio, MOZART’s Requiem, BEETHOVEN’s Symphony No. 9, MENDELSSOHN’s Symphony No. 2,Elijah , BRAHMS’ Requiem, VERDI’s Requiem, MAHLER’s Symphony No. 2, No. 3, No. 8, ORFF’s Carmina Burana, WAGNER’s Lohengrin, to name a few.
