Extracting history with digital tools, creating a realistic recreation of the past;

a reverberating poem of love, revolution, and collective memories.

During the pandemic, when the city he lived in was on lockdown, Chilean artist Malicho Vaca Valenzuela found a way to break free from the constraints of reality and embark on a journey to trace his life experiences. He wandered through digital time and space and among fragments of memories. He heard the roars of revolution and saw the trauma hidden among ruins. As the world progressed, his grandparents, who had been an integral part of his life, became lost in memories. While his grandmother was deep in the throes of Alzheimer’s, the faces of those close to her became blurred. Only classic melodies still resonated clearly in her mind.

Utilizing multiple digital tools, he demonstrates that his personal life experiences have repeatedly intersected with major events in the city. Through oral narration, he serves as a guide through virtual spaces and the creation of a collage of personal and collective memories. During this documentary theater production, the warp and weft of history become evident, and a memory palace is constructed. The legacy of time is the shaping of the present and each moment in the present provides a hint about the future.
