“Before It Begins“Choreographer | CHEN Po-Chieh Performer | CHEN Po-Chieh, HSU Ting-WeiThe beauty of creation often lies not in the final answer, but in that profound silence and inquiry that precedes birth.Choreographer CHEN Po-chieh confronts the undefined inner space of the early creative process, transforming the stage into a laboratory of thought. Positioned within the cracks of the “unnamed,” she unfolds a continuous, unfinished debate with the self. With dance as its core language, the work integrates video and text to form fissures of thought, weaving together first-person introspection and the observer’s gaze. Before any definition takes hold, it honestly reveals the yearning for the unknown and the iterative process of speculation and subversion that defines the creative journey. In Dialogue"Choreographer | TUNG I-FenCo-development, Performer | CHEN Po-ChiehA Body Narrative of Memory, Eras, and ReconnectionCo-created by guest choreographer Tung I-fen and Chen Po-chieh, Dialogue Relations is an experimental new work that fuses physical narrative with Lecture Performance. Using oral history as a guide, the piece revisits the memories of Chen Po-chieh’s upbringing, gazing at the subtle perceptions of an individual amidst environmental shifts.More than just a reconstruction of a long-standing friendship after years apart, this work is a poetic assembly that collages personal life archives with the backdrop of the era. Using the body as a medium, Chen Po-chieh translates fragments of daily life and keywords of identity transformation into a concrete, tension-filled theatrical landscape. In this dialogue—navigating the spaces between reality and imagination, truth and fiction—memory fills the void of lost time, while forgetting becomes the very catalyst for a newfound understanding. Po-Chieh CHEN is the Artistic Director of the creative duo Ars Association, working across creation, performance, teaching, and curatorial practice.Chen’s work centers on the body as her primary artistic vocabulary. Her practice of “integrated creation” weaves together dance, video, objects, spatial environments, and diverse media, forming an organic artistic structure that flows across disciplines and mediums. Her artistic spirit emerges from an inquiry into the body and its essence, extending toward reflections on personal history, lived experience, and social consciousness. Her creations span a wide range of forms, including dance, physical theatre, and opera, presented across traditional theatres and site-specific performance spaces. TUNG I-fen’s work spans choreography, performance, movement direction, and curation.
